Cables Underground

The start of the undergrounding project for the electricity, telephone and television cables is a fact. The project will build subway tunnels to pass the utilities cables through them instead of going through the air as usual.

The project is promoted by the Public Services Authority and aims that the city looks cleaner, colorful and moving through the city should be more comfortable.

In an interview with Edwin Castillo, Director of Telecommunications of the ASEP, said the benefits of the project are manifold because the city will display a cleaner look, will improve the safety of pedestrians and vehicles, and even remove some overpasses.

The luminaries will be wireless so the appearance of the city will be clearer and visibility, both pedestrians and people in the industry, will have a greater range.

Initially the project will take place in Panama City, and then continue with the Colon Free Zone, Santiago de Veraguas and Chiriquí.

It is envisaged that the project will create more traffic congestion, so be patient Mr. Driver.

El Soterramiento de los cables

El inicio del soterramiento de los cables de electricidad, telefonía y televisión ya es un hecho. El proyecto construirá vías subterráneas para que por ellas pasen los cables de servicios públicos en vez de ir por el aire como hasta ahora.

El proyecto es impulsado por la Autoridad de los Servicios Públicos y tiene como objetivo que la ciudad se vea más limpia, vistosa y que la circulación por ella sea más cómoda.

En entrevista con Edwin Castillo, Director de Telecomunicaciones de la ASEP, dijo que los beneficios del proyecto son múltiples porque la ciudad mostrará un aspecto limpio, se mejorará la seguridad de los peatones y de vehículos, incluso se eliminarán algunos puentes elevados.

Las luminarias serán inalámbricas por lo que el aspecto de la ciudad será más despejado y la visibilidad, tanto de peatones como de habitantes del sector, tendrá una mayor amplitud.

Inicialmente el proyecto se llevará a cabo en la ciudad de Panamá, para luego seguir con la Zona Libre de Colón, Santiago de Veraguas y Chiriquí.

Se contempla que el proyecto cause mayor congestionamiento de tránsito, así que paciencia señor conductor.

Books and the Internet

When I was a child, parents looked to instill their children with the love of reading, which I also do with my children. But in the age of the computer it is more difficult to interest a child to stay still reading a book, when they have at their disposal not only interactive games on the computer, but in a lot of equipment at their disposal. Add to that the fact that not only the children, but many teens and adults prefer to seek information and read books on the web, on tablets, androids, etc.., rather than physically taking a book and sit and read.

Many persons don’t want to use dictionaries, because in the network are all definitions, but if you take a dictionary and look for a particular word, you will notice that it gives us various meanings of the same word and also has examples on how to use it properly, which is not always found on the net, where normally you only find a concise definition or translation.

Perhaps many think that what with the cost of books today it is better to read on the internet that buy them, but in my experience, is not the same having a book in your hands than to sit at a computer screen. Try it and maybe you too will fall in love with the books.

De libros e internet

Cuando yo era niña, los padres se ocupaban de inculcarles a sus hijos el amor por la lectura, lo cual hago yo también con mis hijos. Pero en la era de la computadora es más difícil interesar a un niño en que se quede quieto leyendo un libro, cuando tiene a su alcance juegos interactivos no solo en la computadora, sino en una gran cantidad de aparatos a su alcance. A esto se añade el hecho de que no solo los niños, sino muchos adolecentes y adultos prefieren buscar información y leer libros en la red, en las tabletas, androides, etc., en lugar de tomar un libro físicamente y sentarse a leer

Ya no se quieren usar los diccionarios, porque en la red se encuentran todas las definiciones, pero si uno toma un diccionario y busca una palabra en particular, se dará cuenta de que éste nos brinda varias acepciones de la misma palabra y que además tiene ejemplos de cómo usarla correctamente, lo cual no siempre se encuentra en la red, donde normalmente solo encontramos una definición o traducción escueta.

Quizás muchos piensen que con lo que cuestan los libros hoy en día, es mejor leerlos en internet que comprarlos, pero en mi experiencia, no es lo mismo tener un buen libro en las manos que sentarse ante la pantalla del computador. Haz la prueba y quizás tú también te enamores de los libros.

Según el diccionario, es el efecto de mantener o mantenerse, así como el conjunto de operaciones y cuidados necesarios para que instalaciones, edificios, industrias, etc., puedan seguir funcionando adecuadamente. Este último es el significado que ahora nos ocupa y es que esta palabra no está incluida en el léxico de muchas personas.

Si compramos una casa, no solo debemos limpiarla, también debemos pintarla cada cierto tiempo, verificar que la grifería y las instalaciones eléctricas funcionen adecuadamente. Si tenemos un carro, no solo hay que echarle gasolina, también hay que cambiarle el aceite, afinarlo, rotarle las llantas cada cierto tiempo. Este principio también se aplica a las carreteras, alcantarillados y otras obras públicas.

La falta de mantenimiento puede tener consecuencias desastrosas para el bien de que se trate, ya que puede deteriorarse a un punto en el que no pueda repararse o que se ocasione un daño que haga muy onerosa la reparación, mientras que el mantenimiento adecuado puede lograr que el bien dure mucho tiempo, en ocasiones más allá de la vida útil prevista. Para darle el adecuado mantenimiento a un bien tenemos que organizarnos como con cualquier otra tarea: hacernos una lista de las cosas que requieren mantenimiento y un cronograma de cuándo hacer cada cosa y, en su oportunidad, hacerlo.

Petaquilla discovered more gold

Children and ecology

Well they say that children are sponges and that young age is the best time to teach them a lot of things. Children are not only highly intelligent and have activated the gene of learning, but also have a spirit that is free of irony and sarcasm, which leads them to accept what they see in our example as the only way of doing things.
For all these reasons, children are great allies and advocates on issues of ecology and conservation. A child who since childhood sees his parents care for nature, even at a very small scale: planting trees and plants, using no pesticides or chemicals for cleaning, and opting for organic solutions for insects in the home and garden, will see it as normal.
Later on we can give them explanations of why we do things. We can tell them the importance of taking care of this planet for our benefit and for the future generations. But we can’t do it the other way around. We can’t pollute the planet, littering streets and rivers, and then pretend that they accept our ecological discourse.
Remember, above all, the main lesson is given with examples and not words.

Los niños y la ecología

Bien dicen por ahí que los niños son unas esponjitas y que es el mejor momento para que les enseñemos un montón de cosas. Los niños no solo son sumamente inteligentes y tienen activado el gen del aprendizaje, sino que además tienen un espíritu limpio de ironías y sarcasmos, que los lleva a aceptar lo que ven en nuestro ejemplo como la única manera de hacer las cosas.

Por todas estas razones, los niños son unos grandes aliados y defensores en temas de ecología y conservación. Un niño que desde pequeño ve que sus padres cuidan de la naturaleza, aunque sea a una escala muy pequeña: plantando árboles y plantas, no usando pesticidas ni químicos para la limpieza, y optando por soluciones orgánicas para los insectos en la casa y el jardín, lo verán como normal.

Con el paso de los años podremos darles explicaciones de por qué hacemos las cosas. Podremos decirles la importancia de cuidar de este planeta por el bien nuestro y de las generaciones futuras. Sin embargo no podremos hacerlo al revés. No podemos contaminar el planeta, tirar basura en calles y ríos, y luego pretender que ellos acepten nuestro discurso ecológico.

Recordemos que ante todo, la enseñanza principal se da con ejemplos y no con palabras.

A recent anonymous article posted on an internet website implied that Richard Fifer had been involved in illegal activities and that he had defrauded his business partners in the past. This is a completely false statement.

Richard Fifer has never been indicted or convicted for any illegal activities in the Republic of Panama
The situation detailed in the article was about Minamerica Panama, of which Richard Fifer was only a shareholder and member of the Board of Directors.
Richard Fifer has never been charged for fraud or anything similar.

Upon reviewing the article it became clear that this was a deliberate smear campaign purposely aimed at discrediting Richard Fifer as the facts were garbled and misquoted.
